Getting engaged is one of the most exciting moments of your life — and then, almost immediately, the questions start.
Where do we begin? How long should we be engaged? What actually matters first? What should be my next steps after getting engaged?
If you’ve just said yes and feel equal parts excited and overwhelmed, this guide is for you. These are the true next steps I walk couples through as they enter engagement season — calm, intentional, and without the pressure to do everything at once.
Step 1: Pause & Enjoy Being Engaged Before Tackling Next Steps
Before you open Pinterest or download a single planning app, take a breath.
This season goes quickly, and it’s okay to simply enjoy it for a moment. Celebrate with family, share the news, soak it in. Planning will come — and it will be much smoother if you start from a grounded place.
Planner tip: You don’t need to have answers right away. This season goes by in the blink of an eye, take it in.
Step 2: Talk Big Picture Together
Before discussing colors or flowers, talk about the feel of your wedding.
Helpful questions to ask each other:
Do we envision something intimate or larger?
Do we want a local celebration or destination?
What matters most to us: the experience, the aesthetics, or the guest count?
Are there any non-negotiables?
These conversations will guide every decision that follows.
